John Basarab, Ph.D., P.Ag.

As Senior Research Scientist with Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development, John has over 25 years experience in beef cattle production and management. As such, John has played a pivotal collaborative role in Lacombe Meat Lipid Network trials designed to enrich beef with hioactive fatty acids.  John's research focuses on improving feed efficiency, genetic markers development for economically important traits, and Greenhouse Gas mitigation in beef cattle. He is an Adjunct Professor at the Universities of Alberta and Manitoba, member of the senior management team for Livestock Gentec, and past Associate Editor for the Canadian Journal of Animal Science. He is also the author or co-author of more than 300 scientific and extension articles and is the winner of the 2010 Canadian Animal Industries Award in Extension and Public Service. John received his Ph.D. degree in Animal Genetics and Biochemistry in 1981 from the University of Alberta. John can be reached at john.basarab@gov.ab.ca

John is an accomplished curler in leagues, bonspiels and coaching. John more recently suffers from a golf addiction.
